Photo Friday: Living by a Rocky Coast

March 20, 2015

The great thing about living in South Portland, Maine is the photo opportunities I get involving lighthouses, forest, ocean life, and my proximity to its rocky coastline.

Today’s picture was taken this morning, at Spring Point, which is one block from my house.  It is high tide, and the rocks disappear into the water.  For those who have never been here, this is a part of Willard beach, next to the Southern Maine Community College campus.

A Haunting Self Portrait

December 20, 2012

The hardest part of taking this picture was the lack of light.  It was taken at 10:30 at night, with the moon covered by clouds.  I started with two minute exposures at ISO 100, but all I got was darkness with a couple of light spots in the distance.  In order to get the shot the brightness I wanted I had to go up to ISO 3200.

The face, and the fence had another problem.  The flash I was using wasn’t enough. In the end, I had to use my flash light to paint myself and the fence with light.

This turned out to be a great experience photographically, and a fun challenge, which was to do a self portrait in an unconventional manner.

Day 49: Moving On

February 11, 2012

Moving On

I stand on the shore

Right between

My family’s past

And my past,

And realize

I need to walk away

And move on.

Day 48: Persistence Pays

February 10, 2012

Persistence Pays

The bird lands on a branch

And calls to find a mate,

And hears no response.

He repeats this three more days

Then he hears a response

Starting from a distance,

And getting closer.
