First look Photo: New Lens, Last Chance

October 11, 2017

I was hoping to get a 300 mm lens before the egrets left for the season, and it looks like I got that chance.
This is a morning shot of a great egret hunting for food.

First Look Photo: Leading the Pack

September 27, 2017

Every year South Portland has a bike event for charity, and I am always walking home during the race.  Once again, I was ready when the Colorado riders were riding by.

First Look Photo: The Odd Duck

March 22, 2017

I found this white duck among other ducks yesterday.  I thought it was just another type of duck, but the closer I looked at the markings, especially on the head, and after looking at my book, I realized it was a white female mallard duck.  It’s a rare sighting to be sure, but albinos happen in most species, and it’s still fun to see.

Photo Friday: Cloudy Landscape

March 3, 2017

I just love how the clouds have a touch of color from the morning sun.

First Look Photo: Vertical Landscape

December 7, 2016

This is from my photo challenge #5.  In this challenge I was to break the norm of horizontal landscapes, and shoot a vertical landscape instead.

In this shot, I love how all three elements work together to create a pattern of lines running in the same direction.  The foreground is the ducks, the water is the middle ground where there are a few ducks to add tension by breaking the pattern, and the land and the orange sky is the background.

First Look Photo: Cloudscape

November 30, 2016

I love clouds.  They are beautiful, dramatic, and no two cloud formations are ever the same.  The reason I call today’s photo a cloudscape, and not a landscape, is the majority of the shot is about the clouds, and the interplay of light and shadow from the early approach of the sun on the scene.

Day 12: The early morning sunrise

January 5, 2012

The early morning sunrise

The early morning sunrise

Has a beauty all its own,

As the red dances

Through the clouds.

A vision of beauty

Created for inspiration,

To begin a new

And joyous day.

God’s own gentle

Loving reminder

That life is always beginning,

And will never end.
