Photo Friday: Fun for all Ages

July 1, 2016

June 26th was a great day to photograph an event.  It was the day of the South Portland Color Run.  You don’t have to be a top athlete to participate.  I saw entrants as young as 3, and as old as 78.  My purpose was to get pictures of the event, and I ended up with 900 pictures.  Out of all those pictures, I chose today’s picture because it shows the fun of the race and how friendly it is to all ages.

Photo Friday: Photographic Exercise

December 11, 2015

The artist who does not practice his art, is not an artist.  This holds true in all arts, including photography, so I’ve been practicing my breathing, and pressing the shutter calmer, to help eliminate camera shake in low light situations.

I get out of my job at 3:30 in the morning, so I have no problem finding low light situations, and I can’t exactly bring my tripod to work with me.  Armed with only a Canon SX610HS, and nothing else, I knew I had to time my breathing with the shutter button release, just right, or I would get a blurry image.  I did get some blurry shots, but the last ones taken in each area came out much better.

Here, then, are my final results.

They are not perfect, but compared to what I started with, they are improving nicely.

Training For the Cache Gran Fondo

August 12, 2015

I have a confession to make. When it comes to exercise, I am not the most motivated to keep it up for any length of time, so I decided I need a real purpose to keep me going. I needed to come up with something to train for, and it had to be something I could get excited about.

After much reflection, and consideration of my nonexistent athletic past, I ruled out football, baseball, and basketball; besides, I think 49 is a little too old to start with these. Then it hit me. There is one sport I have always been good at, and I can still do at my age. To this end I have decided to enter the Cache Gran Fondo, in Utah.

For those who have never heard of the Gran Fondo, it is a 100 mile bike race, and in the case of the Cache Gran Fondo, it helps women get breast cancer screenings, so it’s a great cause.

This will take training, sponsors, and a bike, which I have chosen to get a Scott Addict CX, which I don’t have at the moment. Until I do get a bike, I am training at Anytime Fitness. I am thinking of starting an Indiegogo campaign to cover costs, and the entry fee; any amount extra will go directly to the cause of breast cancer.

Anyone wishing to help, let me know in the comments, or by e-mail to

I will provide a notice when the campaign has started.

Whacky Wednesday: 4 sentence fairytale

January 21, 2015

As with any goal, there should be some fun involved, and it’s no different with writing goals.  I decided that on my blog, for my writing I should devote one day to the fun side.  Every Wednesday will be dedicated to something whacky and fun.  I am going to challenge you to the same fun in the comments.  I would love to see how you turn writing fun; so I’ll keep these posts short.

Today is dedicated to the 4 sentence fairytale.  The rules are simple.  Four sentences, a complete fairytale, and where applicable, a twist ending.

Here’s mine titled Let’s Eat Pie.

Once upon a time, a fairy loved a boy.
The boy met a girl, and the fairy became jealous.
The fairy turned the girl into a pumpkin, and the boy was impressed
Now the boy and the fairy are married and enjoying pumpkin pie every night.

New Video: Keekin in 38’s

April 27, 2012

This is the video where I said I was on, and I talk about not letting others make you feel guilty for not going to the gym.  You can exercise anywhere.

New Video: Abs and Stretch

April 21, 2012

In this video, I actually show a couple of great ab exercises.  I also talk about how you shouldn’t worry about how you look in the gym because everyone there was in the same boat at one time.

New Video: Just warming up

April 14, 2012

This video I discuss the importance of warming up before lifting weights.  Not only that, my favorite little frogs are back by the thousands.  Peepers are also my favorite natural subject for photographs.

New video: At Little Cost

April 9, 2012

I decided to eliminate two excuses of why people don’t do exercise; money and time.  Any one can exercise with no money, and you can exercise in the time it takes to watch one tv show.

New video: The Not so secret formula.

April 6, 2012

This is the video I did yesterday regarding what I learned about fat loss recently.

I hope you enjoy it.
