First Look Photo: Out of its Range
December 27, 2017First Look Photo: The Odd Duck
March 22, 2017I found this white duck among other ducks yesterday. I thought it was just another type of duck, but the closer I looked at the markings, especially on the head, and after looking at my book, I realized it was a white female mallard duck. It’s a rare sighting to be sure, but albinos happen in most species, and it’s still fun to see.

Photo Friday: Cheeky Duck
December 16, 2016Today’s photo is of a special little duck. As I approached all the other ducks flew off. I wanted a good shot of a duck flying, so I thought I could entice it to fly off by getting closer. It didn’t work, so I made the best of the situation and got a nice closeup.
First Look Photo: Vertical Landscape
December 7, 2016This is from my photo challenge #5. In this challenge I was to break the norm of horizontal landscapes, and shoot a vertical landscape instead.
In this shot, I love how all three elements work together to create a pattern of lines running in the same direction. The foreground is the ducks, the water is the middle ground where there are a few ducks to add tension by breaking the pattern, and the land and the orange sky is the background.
Photo Friday: Birds of Winter
January 22, 2016This time of the year is a great time to capture water birds in Maine. Some are migrating, and some are year round, but it supplies some good opportunities. To some, these may seem like ordinary geese and ducks, but others never get a chance to see these kinds of birds. Either way, I hope you enjoy these shots.
