April 17, 2019

This is the shot I took for a blue hour photo challenge. It is a shot of Portland’s skyline.

Photo Friday: Last Shot of March

April 5, 2019

On March 31st we had a full day of rain, but at the last 3 minutes before sunset, this showed up in a crack in the clouds.

The beautiful thing about sunsets is that no two sunsets are ever the same.

I love a sky so full of color, it looks painted on.

On my walk home from my new job I cross the Casco Bay Bridge.  This is the view from the Bridge.

Photo Friday: Dramatic Cloud Formations

March 24, 2017

I think I’ve said it before, but I love cloud formations.  In a recent unit in my school they talked about stockpiling images of clouds for use as backgrounds of architecture photography, if the sky is uneventful.  This is what today’s shot is for.

I just love how the clouds have a touch of color from the morning sun.

Photo Friday: God’s Fingers

November 4, 2016

There is a natural phenomena when the sun gets behind thick clouds with breaks, and casts a series of focused light beams through the breaks.  There are a multitude of names for this, but my favorite is from my favorite vlogger, Cory Williams (aka Mr. Safety). That term is “God’s fingers”.

On Wednesday I saw some good examples of this, so today’s photo is an example of it.

Photo Friday: Cityscape Sunset

August 26, 2016

I know sunset pictures are regarded as cliché, but there’s a reason for that.  You can have two people stand two miles apart, taking a shot at the same moment, and get two very different sunset shots.  No two sunsets are exactly the same, especially when you add in the element of clouds.

I decided to embrace the cliché with today’s photo.  It was taken off my balcony, with the Portland skyline, and the sun right behind it.

Photo Friday: Shocking moments.

June 5, 2015

There are two types of photographs that I am obsessed with capturing, but as yet, have not caught the perfect moments.  These photographs are waterfalls, and lightning.  Lightning is easy enough to capture, as today’s photos show, but the shot I am after is a strike that spans the length of Portland.  I have seen many of these types of shots, but most, I have seen have proven to be composites of multiple frames.  The shot I want to capture needs to be done in one shot.

Today’s shots were taken during a recent storm through the area, and I took 399 shots to get these three.  I hope you enjoy.
