First Look Photo: Ready to Ride

June 5, 2019

I wanted to find a fine art way to showcase my bike, and I thought the stairs to the old Fort Williams was a nice way to do it.

Ready to Ride

It’s about time.

This clock scene reminds me of a photograph I saw from the 1950’s.

First Look Photo: Leading the Pack

September 27, 2017

Every year South Portland has a bike event for charity, and I am always walking home during the race.  Once again, I was ready when the Colorado riders were riding by.

Photo Friday: Abstract

January 13, 2017

Today’s shot comes from my latest street photography day.  Unlike my other photographs there are no people involved.  In this case, I saw two bike close together, and I chose a lower angle for compositional reasons.  I loved the salt on the tire, which helps to establish the time of year as Winter.

This was the second shot.  The first shot had the second bike in greater focus, which took away from the front bike.  Due to certain distractions, I changed it to black and white.

Training For the Cache Gran Fondo

August 12, 2015

I have a confession to make. When it comes to exercise, I am not the most motivated to keep it up for any length of time, so I decided I need a real purpose to keep me going. I needed to come up with something to train for, and it had to be something I could get excited about.

After much reflection, and consideration of my nonexistent athletic past, I ruled out football, baseball, and basketball; besides, I think 49 is a little too old to start with these. Then it hit me. There is one sport I have always been good at, and I can still do at my age. To this end I have decided to enter the Cache Gran Fondo, in Utah.

For those who have never heard of the Gran Fondo, it is a 100 mile bike race, and in the case of the Cache Gran Fondo, it helps women get breast cancer screenings, so it’s a great cause.

This will take training, sponsors, and a bike, which I have chosen to get a Scott Addict CX, which I don’t have at the moment. Until I do get a bike, I am training at Anytime Fitness. I am thinking of starting an Indiegogo campaign to cover costs, and the entry fee; any amount extra will go directly to the cause of breast cancer.

Anyone wishing to help, let me know in the comments, or by e-mail to

I will provide a notice when the campaign has started.

Photo Friday: Old Port Festival Time

June 19, 2015

Every year, in June, Portland has their Old Port Festival.  I’ve gone for the past several years since I feel it’s a great time to do street photography.  I also post a video on my YouTube channel, check it out.

I am now going to share my favorite shots here.  I hope you enjoy.
